Vikke Mathys, Thrown Around Clayworks..
My journey with clay began when I was just 12 years old. With my parents working long hours, they decided I needed something to keep me out of trouble after school—so, I started playing with clay. While that chapter only lasted a few years (until my teenage years took over), the seed was planted.

My core story
It wasn't until my late 20’s early 30s that I rediscovered the calming effect of wheel throwing. Life, however, had other plans. Raising two wonderful daughters kept me busy for years. Fast forward to today, with my children almost grown, I found myself longing for that creative peace again.

How Thrown Around Clayworks was born
Post-pandemic, I yearned for calmness and found it by taking classes at a local community studio (The Warwick Pottery Studio), and that’s when "Thrown Around Clayworks" (TAC) was born. At first, the creative process was daunting. Some things came back very quickly, and I had to relearn others. I dreaded glazing, it felt like a chore, unpredictable, frustrating, and often disappointing. But I was not ready to give up. After two years of experimentation, I found my rhythm and developed a glazing style that brought me so much joy. Each piece came a new opportunity to create, combining commercial glazes in ways that felt uniquely my own.
Today
Now, I continue to push the boundaries of my craft—exploring new shapes, techniques, and design features. For me, pottery is a lifelong journey of learning and evolving, and it’s one I embrace wholeheartedly. Every bowl, mug, and plate tells a story, and I’m so grateful to share them with you.
